In a heartfelt and nostalgic post, one of Bangladesh’s most experienced and beloved DJs has announced his retirement from the music scene after nearly 20 years of spinning tracks, moving crowds, and shaping the country’s dance music culture.
In a Facebook post, DJ Oni wrote:
“Assalamualykum Everyone, today officially I’m retiring from DJing, I’m hanging up the HEADPHONS, time for a new chapter… I know, I’m not the best but I believe I’m one of the best. Thank you for the beats, the memories, and the dance floor.”
In a country where professional DJs—especially from Bengali backgrounds—remain relatively rare in the mainstream spotlight, his contribution stands out as groundbreaking. For close to two decades, he not only entertained but educated music lovers with his selections, blending local tastes with global electronic sounds. His sets were known for their emotional resonance and deep crowd connection, whether at weddings, festivals, or clubs.
Reflecting on his journey, the DJ acknowledged the highs and lows: the love, the jealousy, the friendships, and the rivalries. Despite not coming from a privileged background in the entertainment scene, he stated, “Person like me who don’t belong to anything but conquer almost everything.”
DJ Oni extended his gratitude to everyone involved in his journey—friends, fans, engineers, fellow DJs, even the “traitors,” showing a rare humility and honesty about the complex world behind the music.
His retirement marks the end of an era for the local DJ community, as fans and peers alike flooded social media with tributes, memories, and praise for a man who dared to carve out a space for DJs in Bangladesh’s evolving cultural landscape.
As the beat fades out for this chapter, his legacy continues to echo in the hearts of those who danced to his rhythms.
